MANILA, Philippines - Tuluyan nang binago ng Ateneo de Manila University at University of the Philippines ang kanilang academic calendar kung saan Agosto na ang simula ng klase imbis na Hunyo.
Sinabi ng pamunuan ng Ateneo ngayong Huwebes na ipatutupad ang bagong academic calendar sa 2015-2016 school year para sa Loyola schools at professional o graduate schools.
Dagdag ni Villarin na walong buwan nilang pinag-aralan ang pagpapatupad ng bagong academic calendar alinsunod sa economic integration ng Association of Southeast Asia Nations sa 2015.
"Ateneo needs to ensure that our graduates develop a global outlook and global competencies so that they can navigate a more complex, interconnected world and contribute towards resolving global concerns," pahayag ni Ateneo University President Jose Ramon Villarin.
Samantala, ngayong 2014-2015 school year na ipatutupad ng UP ang pagbabago sa lahat ng kanilang campus sa buong bansa maliban sa UP Diliman dahil marami ang kumokontra, ayon sa ulat ng Philippine Collegian.
Inihayag na rin ng De La Salle University at University of Santo Tomas ang planong ilipat din sa Agosto o Setyembre ang pagbubukas ng klase.
Nauna nang sinabi ng Commission on Higher Education na maaari itong gawin ng apat na paaralan dahil sa kanilang "autonomous status."
Inalala naman ni Senate Committee on Education, Arts and Culture chairperson Pia Cayetano ang mga maaapektuhang paaralan sa gagawing pagbubukas ng klase sa Agosto.

"But how about the calendars of other colleges and universities? And our schools in the basic and secondary levels, which would inevitably be affected? We must take the time to consider all the possible effects of revising our school calendar, carefully weighing social, cultural, economic and other factors that are unique to our country,†sabi ni Cayetano.
