Kampo ni Vargas sa korte na ang takbo

MANILA, Philippines - Nanindigan ang Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) Commission on Elections sa desisyon nitong idiskwalipika si Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines (ABAP) chief Ricky Vargas na tumakbo bilang pangulo ng national Olympic body.

Kaya naman nais ng kampo ni Vargas na dalhin na sa korte ang naturang usapin upang malinawan ang magkabilang panig sa umano’y hindi malinaw na punto ng POC election committee.

“Mr. Vargas will seek redress in the courts of law. He wants an objective and authoritative interpretation of this indistinct eligibility requirement,” wika ni Atty. Chito Salud na siyang tumatayong spokesperson ni Vargas.

“The narrow-minded and simplistic interpretation of the rules on eligibility is in many ways not surprising. It only validates our belief that the time for change has come. It is but unfortunate that change will once again have to be wrested from, rather than guided and ushered in by enlightened leaders we in the sports community sorely miss,” dagdag ni Salud sa statement.

Walang ibang hangad si Vargas kundi mabago ang sistema sa mundo ng Philippine sports.

“But it has to be done, and it will be done. With the support of the very athletes whose welfare is the sole, paramount driving force of our efforts and with malice toward no one, Ricky Vargas shall carry on this relentless quest for change,” ayon pa kay Salud.

Muling iginiit ng POC election committee ang terminong aktibong miyembro na siyang pangunahing dahilan ng pagkakasibak ni Vargas sa eleksiyon. Sinabi ng POC na isang beses lamang dumalo si Vargas sa 20 pagpupulong ng kumite mula Pebrero hanggang Mayo ng taong kasalukuyan.

“The election committee failed and refused to see the merits of the arguments raised by Mr. Vargas. It has chosen to stick to its myopic and unreasonable interpretation of ‘active member.’ The POC by-laws do not contain any definition of ‘active member’ nor any clear guidelines to determine active membership,” wika pa ni Salud.
