D-League dadalhin sa mga lalawigan

MANILA, Philippines - Mananatiling tulay ng mga amateur pla­yers patungo sa Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) ang Developmental Lea­gue.

Ito ang paniniyak ni PBA Commissio­ner Chito Salud na nagsabi ding plano ni­lang dalhin sa mga lalawigan ang liga na itinayo matapos na mamatay ang Philippine Basketball League (PBL).

“Yes, the plan is to expand the league to the provinces, Luzon, in particular in the soonest possible time,” wika ni Salud, anak ng nasirang dating PBA Commissioner Rudy Salud.

Sampung koponan ang kasaluku­yang kalahok sa pangatlong torneo ng D-League--ang Foundation Cup - na binuksan noong Martes.

Ang mga ito ay ang NLEX, Cebuana Lhuillier, Blackwater Sports, Erase Plantcenta, Boracay Rum, Big Chill, Junior Powerade, Pacific Pipes, Café France at Cagayan Rising Suns.

Winalis ng NLEX Road Warriors ang naunang torneo ng liga at tangka nilang makuha ang kanilang pangatlong kampeonato sa Foundation Cup.

Ang ideya ng D-League ay ipinanga­nak ilang taon na ang nakalilipas sa pa­nahon nina dating PBA chairman Re­ne Pardo at Commissioner Sonny Barrios subalit ngayon lamang ipinatutupad upang punuan ang naging kawalan ng commercial amateur league matapos na magsara ang PBL.

Ang liga ay bukas sa mga player na may edad mula 17 hanggang 26 taong gulang.

 “The league is the place where up-and-coming players from the collegiate ranks and even the out-schoolers and those from the provinces to be,” ani ni Salud.
