World Pool iho-host ng Pinas
Idaraos sa bansa ang World Cup of Pool, isa sa pinakamalaki at prestihiyosong pool events sa mundo sa Setyembre 1-6. Ito ang inihayag ng organizing Matchroom Sports kahapon sa press conference sa Sports Plus RestoBar sa Eastwood City.
Ayon kay Matchroom official Eddie Hearn na nasa proseso na ngayon sa pag-iinspeksiyon ng posibleng Efren ‘Bata’ Reyes at Francisco ‘Django’ Bustamante sa paunang pagtatanghal noong 2006 sa Newport, Wales.
“It’s important to come here because of the pool’s popularity and importance in this country. We know that very well,” ani Hearn.
“I remember the initial staging of the event in Newport, Wales. It was as if it was held here because of the huge Filipino crowd coming from all over. We were asking ‘are we sure Efren and Django are not the home pair?” dagdag pa ni Hearn.
Hindi pa kumpleto ang buong detalye bagamat malaki ang posibilidad na muling kakatawanin nina Reyes at Bustamante ang bansa.
Sina Ronnie Alcano at Dennis Orcollo ang magkatambal noong umabot sa semis ang Philippines noong nakaraang taon sa Rotterdam.
Tinalo ng US tandem nina Rodney Morris at Shane Van Boening sina Alcano at Orcollo para mapagwagian ang titulo.
May kabuuang $250,000 premyo ang nakataya sa World Cup na tatampukan ng mga bigatin mula sa United States, Taiwan, England at Germany.
