‘Family Matters’

Matters related to family, at the end of the day, are the things that count most. There’s more to a solid family than not having dirty linen to air in public — it’s having security for your hard-earned wealth so that it can be passed on to your loved ones even as you reap its perks now.

HSBC Premier relaunched recently its personalized and expertly crafted financial services that help families and individuals unlock the limitless possibilities of their wealth. During a dinner at the Peninsula Manila, HSBC Premier showcased how wealth, international connectivity, and safety and protection play an integral in writing one’s success story. Present were HSBC CEO Graham FitzGerald, head of retail banking and wealth management Peter Faulhaber and Anya Katigbak Cajucom, senior vice president, head of marketing for retail and wealth management.

To underscore the importance of wealth, safety and protection, and international connectivity, the multi-course dinner had more than a serving of values to impart with each course.

The first course consisted of appetizers served in a box, symbolizing a safety deposit box. As event host Issa Litton explained, “To keep your family safe like the safety box, your HSBC Premier membership will provide an extensive range of insurance plans, be it for health, wealth, travel, that can allow you to get and provide the same level of care to yourself and to your family for a lifetime.”

And for the main course, which represented wealth, steak was served on solid wooden slabs, to underscore “why you need a strong foundation, with HSBC Premier, like the solid wooden board where our main course is presented!”

Dessert was a medley of pastries, served family style, how else!

Former senator Ramon Magsaysay Jr. and his son Paco, Cheryl Tiu and mom Lianne, Erik and Bea Dee gave glowing testimonials on the value of passing on a legacy of what matters most: a strong family.

Issa summed up what HSBC was trying to impart that evening to the tune of Whitney Houston’s Greatest Love of All: “Wealth is always passed on, and families pass on the highest form of wealth to their children through love.”

‘Deep’ commitment

Marine biologist Harry Morris, popular among Filipinos as a national rugby player and member of the Philippines Volcanoes, is going back to his roots as a marine biologist. He is heavily involved with the Trinity Project of the Hijo Resources Corp. in Tagum City, Davao del Norte, which started in November 2016. The project initially covered only 200 square meters of the area near the corporation’s beach resort, but later on expanded to cover 120 hectares, including 20 hectares of mangrove forest, 80 hectares of seagrass meadows, and 20 hectares of coral reef habitat.

The planned 132-hectare smart city by Hijo Resources Corp. in Davao del Norte is expected to boost revenues in this part of Mindanao over the next 10 years. A mixed-used project, it will feature agricultural, industrial, residential and commercial components in Barangay Madaum in Tagum City.

Premier wellness center BlueWater Day Spa showed its love for the environment by donating to the Trinity Project. The spa is supporting Harry Morris’ efforts to rehabilitate the damaged coastline of Davao Gulf as well as improve the biological diversity in this part of the Davao Gulf.

“We are all stakeholders in the preservation of our natural resources. Whatever we can do — even the smallest of deeds — to help ensure that Mother Nature is taken care of is already a huge contribution to such cause. For us in BlueWater Day Spa, we believe that Harry Morris and the Trinity Project will provide a significant support to environmental sustainability, so we are lending them a hand with the means that we have,” said Mary Simisim, BlueWater Day Spa president.

Now, that’s what I call a deep commitment to the environment. *
