A flavorful slice of history

OH YES, IT'S JOHNNY! - Johnny Litton - The Philippine Star

A one-of-a-kind culinary journey dubbed as “Comida de Independencia” brought in a “new flavor” to this year’s Philippine Independence Day celebration at the five-star hotel in the Queen City of the South, Marco Polo Plaza Cebu (MPPC). The premier hotel is under the helm of indefatigable general manager and Marco Polo Hotels, Philippines area general manager Hans Hauri.

The gathering was held at the hotel’s signature outlet Café Marco. It was in this restaurant where guests experienced to be transported back in time as they were treated to mouthwatering dishes that were served during the first Independence Day celebration held at Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo’s residence in Kawit, Cavite.

Sumptuous dishes like bringhe, chicken adobo terrine, native chicken karahay and Gorgoria — prepared by MPPC’s team of seasoned chefs under the guidance of culinary guru Jessica Avila  — were served aside from Café Marco’s regular buffet spread.

Congratulations to Hans and his team for this spectacular culinary journey!

High tea at its best

A new breed of young society ladies recently organized and celebrated a special chic high tea at the newly opened all-day dining restaurant, Cucina, located at the 24th floor of Marco Polo Hotel Ortigas, for the stunning new mom, Jerika Ejercito.

The ladies enjoyed a spread of delectable afternoon tea offerings exquisitely prepared by the hotel’s talented pastry chefs and kitchen team headed by executive chef Benjamin Rendell.

Leave it to Marco Polo Hotel Ortigas director of sales and marketing Pearl Maclang, director of communications Francis de Leon and the rest of their hardworking team for another wonderful event.

A celebration with dear friends

The amiable and kind BDO executive Maurice Lim was feted recently by different groups of friends for his birthday.

In spite of his modest protests, Maurice was not successful in stopping the thoughtful Minerva Tanseco, together with Ilocos Norte Rep. Imelda Marcos, Boysie Villavicencio, Beng Fores and their friends, to let such an occasion pass without a celebration.

The celebration began with a pleasant lunch at Chef Jessie at Rockwell and ended with festivities at Makati Shangri-La’s Shang Palace. The celebrator was overjoyed and thankful for such a memorable birthday made possible by dear friends.

Art from the heart

Pieces of sculpture collectively called Tangible Rhythms were presented by EDSA Shangri-La at its recent “Art of Wine” affair, a monthly celebration of Philippine art and the art of wine.

EDSA Shangri-La resident manager Urs Solenthaler welcomed guests to the intimate gathering that featured the works of acclaimed artist Dr. William Chua. The good doctor, together with his son, Dr. Denton Chua, unveiled his prized piece called Puso along with other intricate and breathtaking artworks representing various parts of the human heart.

Live jazz music filled the air. Guests joyfully partook of the hotel’s delicious hors d’oeuvres that were paired with Antinori wines from Tuscany, courtesy of Bacchus.

Our heartfelt thanks to the hotel’s general manager Patrick Schaub, director of communications Cristina del Carmen and communications manager Angel Velasco for another successful event!
