Enjoying home-cooked food at the Terrace

It all started with their desire to put up a restaurant that would serve good home-cooked meals. So, seven friends — Cynthia and Ivy Almario, Carol Garcia, Maricris Zobel, Ching Cruz, Menchu Soriano and Cecille Ysmael — gathered all their best recipes and Terrace at the 5th in Greenbelt 5 was born. With Cecille’s organized execution of the kitchen, all the sumptuous and filling meals they have been dreaming about can now be found and enjoyed at their restaurant.

Meats are a popular dish at Terrace. It has a one-kilo porterhouse steak good for sharing. This can be ordered with a variety of sidings and sauces. An instant favorite siding is Carol’s Gulliver corn, a creamy and semi-sweet baked corn dish. The corned beef here is boiled while the US Certified Angus Beef rib eye steak is broiled to perfection with its juices intact. It is served with whole roasted garlic and your choice of sidings and sauce (which, by the way, includes the Peter Luger sauce imported from Brooklyn). Maricris’ serving of US beef short ribs with rice and cole slaw remains a top seller in this quaint restaurant designed by the Almario sisters.

Aside from meats, the tofu salad is perfect for the health-conscious eater. Ching’s sole meuniere is something I can enjoy here and I don’t have to wait for the next dinner in her house! Maricris’ laing pasta with white shrimps gives a twist on home cooking and several other “comfort food” pastas are served here, too.

Though the restaurant just had its grand opening last Friday, it is good to note that lunch and dinners at the Terrace have already been packed during the soft opening. At the grand opening, guests nibbled on appetizers and ordered their favorite meals. Terrace also has an al fresco dining area and is open for lunch and dinner. Check out what people go for in Terrace at the 5th at the ground floor of Greenbelt 5.
