MANILA, Philippines — Nothing beats Filipino craftsmanship, President Rodrigo Duterte said as he took off his custom-made leather shoes before some Cabinet members in Malacañang on Wednesday.

The president was filmed by his broadcast team showing off a pair of brogue boots made by a local artisan from Marikina.

"May nagpadala nitong [sapatos], babae, sabi niya ginawa daw ng tatay niya sa Marikina," Duterte said.

In an exclusive interview with Philstar.com last June, Boni Adaza of Chardin fashion house revealed that the pair of shoes was a gift from a craftsman named Rolando de Guzman Santos who has been working in the Philippine footwear industry for 54 years.

Duterte pointed out that Filipino products have world class qualities, adding that we are number one when it comes to making top-of the-line shoes and even furniture.

“Sa craftsmanship, number one ang Pilipino. Even sa furniture, walang makakatalo sa Pilipino,” he added. — Video edited by Efigenio Toledo IV; Courtesy of RTVM
