MANILA, Philippines – Sen. Vicento “Tito” Sotto III on Wednesday said balance and compromise are the two components essential to resolving issues on labor contractualization.

Reacting to reports that President-elect Rodrigo Duterte is opposed to the practice of labor contractualization but is favoring contract-based jobs under his administration for economic development, Sotto said both contractualization and “endo contract”, where contracts are renewable every five months to skirt regulations on employee benefits, must be weighed and considered.

“Kailangan lang diyan a very good mix, tingin ko tamang timpla lang,” Sotto said at the Kapihan sa Manila Bay forum while somehow agreeing with Duterte’s pronouncement that he is against the “endo contract.”

Watch Sotto share his views on contractualization.
