MANILA, Philippines — The desire for material wealth influences our decisions more than we think it does, Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle said Thursday at the International Eucharistic Congress in Cebu.
In his catechesis at the major international Catholic gathering, Tagle said the the economic system dictates what we will take up in college and makes us want to belong to groups, exclusive clubs and gated villages.
"Oh you will not become rich as a musician, enter into something else. Even the value system, what I will study is dictated upon by the economic system," Tagle said.
