Guang Da Xing incident a model for conflict resolution

Following the announcement by the National Prosecution Service of the Philippine Justice Department that it would bring charges in the Guang Da Xing No. 28 incident, I am writing to express my sincere thanks for your support of our cause in bringing those responsible to justice.

The bereaved family takes consolation in this resolution, but still faces the pain of protracted judicial proceedings.

From the onset of this unfortunate incident, we have understood that poise and perseverance are required to jointly work out a mutually acceptable solution to peacefully and reasonably resolve this incident. Though we have experienced unexpected challenges and difficulties, we have been able to calmly cope through candid communication and consultation. I believe that this example not only exemplifies our two countries’ everlasting amity but also serves as a model for conflict resolution.

Given the geographic proximity and traditional friendship between our two countries, I see ample opportunities to bring our relations ever closer. To advance agendas to enhance our bilateral ties, we need your continued and staunch support.True to the proverb.”Better a neighbor near than a brother far off,” and as your true neighbor, I look forward to working closely with you to serve the best interests of our two countries and peoples.

Thank you once again. You are always in our prayers. — RAYMOND L.S. WANG, Representative, Taipei Economic & Cultural Office in the Philippines
