School opening for elementary, HS students still in June
MANILA, Philippines — Classes for the 2014-2015 school calendar will definitely begin in June, Education Secretary Armin Luistro said.
A report by the Philippine News Agency said the Department of Education is retaining the June to April school calendar this year.
"Let us not bother or trouble parents and their children about the next enrollment. The 2014 school calendar is still June to April and not August to May or even September as broached by some sectors.
â€In the first place, there are only four tertiary schools which have signified their intention to start classes in September because of their race to catch up in education in time with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) integration in 2015,†said Luistro.
Luistro added that only the colleges and higher institutions are revising their school calendars and not the elementary or secondary schools throughout the country.
Luistro said the DepEd is a member of the technical group formed by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) to study the possibility of changing school calendar from June to September in the future.
He said the final decision will come out by the third week of this month.
