Art workshop aims to promote epilepsy awareness

MANILA, Philippines - For the first time on August 21, 2013, art and medicine will come together at the Philippine High School for the Arts (PHSA) in Makiling, Los Baños, Laguna, for a workshop.

Titled PWEde@PHSA, the one-day workshop aims to involve gifted high school students in promoting awareness and advocacy for Persons with Epilepsy (PWE) through the arts (PWEde).

Doctors, persons with epilepsy, artist-facilitators, parents, students, staff and faculty will interact, have fun and learn and understand epilepsy as a medical condition. Through the power of art, they will demonstrate in creative and imaginative ways persons with epilepsy can be empowered and lead normal lives, given proper care and attention, love and spiritual and emotional support from families and communities. Young artists will then come to realize that art is a powerful resource to open minds, touch hearts and move to action the persons/agencies concerned as well as the general public.
