Banat Opinyon

Pagwagtang sa compulsory retirement age

SENIOR CITIZEN - Antolin dela Serna - Banat

Apan, earlier, ang selebrasyon gihalad ngadto kaniya, days before his 100th birthday, sa ato pa, sa 99 years pa siya, diin iyang gibutyag ang sekreto sa mayo niyang panglawas: “Love of his family, laughter, and a life on invigorating work. I like getting up in the morning with something in my mind, blood pressure something I can work on.”

Apan, matud pa, “even at his 90s, when most people who live that long are lucky to be rocking on their front porch,” apan kining atong gihisgutan dinhi nga iconic producer, never stopped working.

Laughter, usa sa nakapataas sa iyang kinabuhi. Ug gikan sa Reader’s Digest: “Every time you laugh, it’s like taking a miracle pill for your health. Laughter can reduce stress, lower blood pressure, boost the immune system, improve brain functioning and even protect your heart. Humor is an antidote

To everyday problems. It is contagious and laughter is infectious.”

Ngilngiga no?

Rodolfo Ordoñez, Jr, Senior Citizen Party-list Representative, kinsa miingon nga “many of the elderly are still able to work.”   Yuna pa, nganong wala may taga-Cebu nga ma-senior citizen party-list representative ddto sa House?

Anyway, matud dinhi, sa napatik sa Philippine Star: “In his proposed House Bill 3220, an  employee who reaches 65 years ‘can choose to continue their employment’ provided that the senior citizen qualifies under the bona fide occupational qualifications of his job.”

“The burden to prove the worker is no longer capable rests with the employer,” dugang ni Ordoñez.

Ang HB 3220, matud pa, “is a progression from the Anti-Age Discrimination Law which has enabled many seniors to continue working because they can apply for jobs now that there is no age ceiling on hiring.

“The path or option to continue leading productive lives should not be taken away. That path should be open to them in keeping with the intent of the Anti-Age Discrimination Law and taking that intent a step further,” nagkanayon si Ordoñez.

Bitaw, kon productive pa, nganong dili na man patrabahuon?
