Americans defacing Jesus Christ and Mama Mary

SHOOTING STRAIGHT - Valeriano Avila - The Freeman

It’s been 38 days since that ghastly incident last May 25 when George Floyd, a 46-year-old black man, was killed by a police officer in Minneapolis, Minnesota, during an arrest for allegedly using a counterfeit bill. This triggered a massive nationwide protest by black Americans who used the slogan Black Lives Matter (BLM). However, the protest for justice quickly turned into violence, looting, and defacing of American statues and defunding of the police in many major American cities. We submit that police brutality exists not just in America but where there are nations guarded by the police, even here in Cebu and many areas in the country.

Things have gotten worse in America after protesters defaced statues of the first American president, George Washington, because he had slaves in those days when slavery was legal. Even statues of abolitionists who fought to free America of slavery were defaced. As it turned out, the BLM founder admitted that he was an avowed Marxist. So if you checked the history of Russia when the Romanov Dynasty was extinguished by the Bolsheviks, what did they do? They defaced and destroyed statues of the past Russian history. Sounds similar?

So quickly did the rioters and violent protesters turn into iconoclasts by toppling statues of Thomas Jefferson, shattering stained glass windows of churches and a man named Shaun King of BLM wanted to deface the faces of our Lord Jesus Christ and the Blessed Virgin Mary because they are racists and symbols of white supremacy because of their white skin. They even toppled the statue of St. Junipero Serra, the priest who founded California. Clearly these rioters are anti-Christian and atheists who do not believe or even respect God. Clearly Shaun King is doing the work of Satan.

Just when we thought things would die down, the rioters in Seattle created a six blocks in the inner city that they called Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone (CHAZ) or Capitol Hill Organized Protest (CHOP) that Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan tolerated, calling it a “Summer of Love.” But they didn’t allow any police to go inside their zone. However the protesters led by a black rapper were armed to the teeth and asked the residents for food, money, or water. This has been going on for a month.

Then a week ago, there was a shooting where two persons were killed and no amount of calling the police or 911 could save them. Tomorrow would have been a very interesting date for CHAZ because the supporters of Pres. Donald Trump, the Bikers for Trump, promised to clear CHAZ tomorrow on the 4th of July and we are talking thousands of bikers here.

However, after another night of killing in the zone, Mayor Durkan, who allowed CHAZ in the first place, issued a resolution asking the police to remove CHAZ and they did so last Wednesday where they removed the temporary barricades and retook the East Precinct station, the police station that the protesters took over weeks ago. They also arrested 23 people for resisting arrest. Now CHAZ is gone!

The latest report I got about things happening in Cebu City was when DENR Secretary Roy Cimatu challenged Cebu City residents to fight for Cebu City to end our Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ). Cimatu said, “We have to end your quarantine already and I’m making this a message to all the Cebuanos. You help us end Cebu’s quarantine.”

According to Cimatu, “The good news, is that the behavior and attitude of locals have changed in the few days that the national government decided to augment local efforts in implementing the ECQ. He added, “Napansin namin in the second week ay nag-change kaagad ang image ng pag-comply ng mga Cebuanos. Ngayon, if you are there, makikita mo talagang very strict ang lockdown at the compliance ng mga tao; hindi na katulad noon. So yan siguro ang una. Second, ang kanilang compliance of the minimum health standards, sinusunod na rin nila yan.” This happened hours after Cebu City’s ECQ was extended to July 15.

At this point, allow me to say that Cebuanos have become ECQ weary. If we don’t change our ways we will always experience a high number of infected cases. So we can only hope and pray that by July 15, Cebu City will be returned to General Community Quarantine.
