Butt of jokes

Text message making the rounds these days says: “Pls. support charter change esp. amendment of Art. VII, Sec. 4 of 1987 Constitution to wit ... The President may serve two successive terms, 1 in office and 1 in jail.”

A police asset has been nabbed for extortion. “Mere assets are not allowed to extort,” says my friend Teddy, not adding who are “allowed.”

An actress who has the shape of her buttocks improved through surgery is now in tears. She’s suffering from infection. And from being made by some people the butt of jokes.

An old maid of my acquaintance said: “Ako no, bisa’g sapyot ning akong lubot wa gyud nako pahilabti. It’s what God has given me.” Then she cupped her hands and whispered: “Mao kaha ni rason na-old maid ko?” Hehe.

Ms. Kata Inocencio, co-host of Bro. Eddie Villanueva in the tv program “Diyos at Bayan” (also of 700 Club) has impressed me and many other watchers of the show as a knowledgeable and articulate host. She’s conversant on many vital issues.

One political observer said someone should lead a move to encourage Kata to run for the Senate. “She can do a better job in Congress than some showbiz personalities we elected to the Upper Chamber,” this observer said.

As for Bro. Eddie Villanueva of the Jesus is Lord (JIL) movement, what has happened to his presidential aspiration? After tittilating the millions of JIL followers with his reported intention to run for the top office, his gun went silent.

I have knowledgeable political analyst-friends who feel the JIL head could make it to the Senate (the Presidency may come later) if he’d go for it. There is only one President to be elected and the road to the Palace is crowded; while there are 12 senators to be elected. The traffic to the Senate is also heavy but at least the candidate has 12 chances to make it.

E-mail from Marie Quibralta, a Cebuana nurse in the US (New Nersey): “Mayor Tomas Osmeña says he has been healed of his cancer by, who else, but the Lord. It behooves him to be thankful to his Healer ... But for him to drive away patients in the Cebu City Medical Center who come from places outside Cebu City is not being thankful to the Lord.”
