Hatton thinks Pacquiao is an amputee?

HAVE BAT WILL STRIKE - Juanito V. Jabat   -

The Vagina Monologues, an entertainment group, is back. I got a text message from someone who asked: "How do you translate the name of this group in Cebuano? Pls text back." I did not text back.

Another someone (actually a friend) asked me: "is the Vagina Monologues an all-women group?" I looked at him in the eyes, shook my head, and whispered to myself: "Stupid."

Ricky Hatton says he'll pummel Manny Pacquiao until he falls. Unfortunately for Sir Hatton, Pacquiao is not an amputee. And his fists also know how to pummel. Ask Oscar de la Hoya, he knows.

A student told me that at the cashier's counter in her school there's a poster that says: "Pay your tuition with a smile." I asked the student if her school accepts a "smile" as fee for tuition. She laughed and said: "Our smile is OK but they need cash."

A bubbly Masscom intern asked me: "How many girlfriends did you have in college, Sir?" I said none. "I didn't know how to talk sweet nothings to girls." And the cellphone had not yet been invented.

It says here that Dr. Vicky Belo has dumped her current counsel Raymond Fortun for a better-looking lawyer. Isn't the dumping Belo the belt? Attorney Fortun is one of the best lawyers in the country. Un-Fortun-ately, his erstwhile client has discovered after five years that he's not as good-looking as the doktora's new find.

There was a campus debate on which is better as "news supplier" the newspaper or television. This brings back to mind the argument between a newspaper publisher and a tv network owner. Its an old argument but I've always loved it and I want to share it with you now (again?). The tv owner said the newspaper is losing ground against television. The newspaper publisher said: "Oh, yeah? Can you swat a fly with a tv set?"

Seriously now, I hail the creation of the Inday Nita Freedom Awards in honor of Inday Nita Cortez Dalus. Inday Nita was a courageous freedom fighter whose fight against the dictatorship she waged over the radio and on the streets.

While other broadcasters then -- some other broadcasters, let me qualify that -- chose to steer clear of the vindictive regime, Inday Nita fought the dictatorship head on. It was my good fortune that I was one of the print mediamen trusted by Inday Nita, who would call me and tip me on the move the local opposition was making. Correct me if I'm wrong but there seems to be no other woman in Cebu, and maybe in the whole country, who fought the Marcos dictatorial regime more valiantly and daringly than Inday Nita did.
