MANILA, Philippines - For the second straight year, Pilipino Star Ngayon has been named the “Best Filipino Newspaper of the Year” by the 12th Gawad Tanglaw Awards held on March 7 at the Colegio de San Juan de Letran in Calamba, Laguna.

PSN was represented by its editor-in-chief Al Pedroche and provincial editor Mario Basco, who received the trophy from Norman Llaguno, together with Teresita Bagalso, Jaime Ang and Romeo Flaviano Lirio during the ceremony.

Gawad Tanglaw also awarded other publications, television and radio stations in several categories.

PSN earned its popularity among tabloid readers for its excellent use of the Filipino language that the intelligent masses can easily relate to, which is also the reason why it was recognized by Gawad Tanglaw.

PSN also takes pride in having a roster of the industry’s seasoned columnists, each one very knowledgeable about the topics that they write on.

PSN also secured its strong readership for its entertaining “Litra Talk” and its “Showbiz Ngayon” section, which deliver the latest and the freshest news that readers look forward to.

Gawad Tanglaw’s evaluation cited nine distinct qualities of PSN, which outstripped many other newspapers in the country.

Gawad Tanglaw (Gawad Tagapuring mga Akademisyan ng Aninong Gumagalaw) honors outstanding personalities and programs from media – print, radio and television – as well as movie artists and filmmakers for their remarkable works and performances. The award-giving body is composed of critics, scholars, historians and professors from different universities and colleges in the country.
