QCPD probes PWD assault

MANILA, Philippines — The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) has launched an investigation into the alleged punching of a person with disability (PWD) by a security guard of a bookstore in the city.
The incident, which has gone viral on social media, reportedly occurred at around 6 p.m. on Aug. 27.
The security guard allegedly accused the PWD of shoplifting.
Police coordinated with the social media page that posted the video and conducted an ocular investigation.
Probers are also coordinating with the nearby establishments to secure closed-circuit television footage and other evidence that could establish what happened.
Police have contacted the PWD’s family, who expressed their intention to file a complaint against the security guard.
The Quezon City government, through its persons with disability affairs office, has also reached out to the PWD’s relatives, who are residents of Pasay, to provide legal aid and other services.
The QCPD said it would ensure that the case is handled impartially, with due regard for the rights of all parties.
