Magnitude 4.5 quake shakes La Union

MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 4.8 earthquake shook La Union and neighboring areas yesterday afternoon, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.
Phivolcs said the quake occurred at 2:33 p.m., with the epicenter located approximately one kilometer east of Pugo town.
State seismologists corrected an earlier advisory indicating Tuba town in Benguet as the quake’s epicenter.
The quake was tectonic in origin and was not expected to cause damage to property or generate aftershocks, Phivolcs said.
It was felt at Intensity 5 in Baguio City and Tuba in Benguet as well as in the towns of Tubao and Pugo in La Union.
Intensity 4 was recorded in Agoo, Bagulin, Bauang, Caba, Naguilian, Rosario, San Fernando City and Santo Tomas in La Union; Sison in Pangasinan; and Itogon, Kapangan, La Trinidad, Sablan and Tublay in Benguet. – Cesar Ramirez
