MANILA, Philippines — Up to 48 areas experienced danger-level heat index yesterday, with Tuguegarao in Cagayan and Casiguran in Aurora recording 46 degrees Celsius, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.
PAGASA’s heat index chart showed that Hacienda Luisita in Tarlac, CBSU-Pili in Camarines Sur, Borongan and Guiuan in Eastern Samar and Surigao City logged 45 degrees Celsius.
The Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay and the Science Garden in Quezon City were among areas that exerienced a danger-level heat index of 42 degrees Celsius, PAGASA said.
A danger-level heat index ranges from 42 to 51 degrees Celsius.
Exposure to danger-level heat index with continuous activity may result in heat exhaustion or stroke.
State meteorologists advised the public to drink plenty of water, avoid going outside particularly between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and use sunscreen to protect themselves from the heat.
