2 kids dead in Valenzuela explosion

MANILA, Philippines — Two children were killed and seven were injured after a house in Valenzuela City stuffed with pyrotechnic powder exploded yesterday.

The explosion occurred at past 11 a.m., affecting four families at a compound in Barangay Marulas.

The residence is owned by a couple “storing pyrotechnics at this time while prices are still low,” Northern Police District director Brig. Gen. Jerry Protacio said.

Mayor Wes Gatchalian said the incident was an “isolated case,” adding that Valenzuela is not in the firecracker industry.
