MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5.2 earthquake rocked Calayan Island in Cagayan yesterday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.

Phivolcs said the quake occurred at 9:34 a.m. and its epicenter was located 103 kilometers west of Calayan.

Instrumental intensity 1 was recorded in Claveria town in mainland Cagayan.

The temblor was not expected to cause damage to property, but it may generate aftershocks, state seismologists said.

Phivolcs said the quake occurred as Tropical Storm Crising was pounding several areas in Northern Luzon, including Cagayan, which was under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal Number 2.
