Kalibo, Vigan airports set for upgrade
MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is planning to improve airport facilities in Aklan and Ilocos Sur, allocating nearly P150 million for the gateways’ upgrade.
The DOTr allocated P133.07 million for the Kalibo International Airport Development Project, which would include upgrading of the gateway’s landside area.
For this project, the DOTr is requiring the winning bidder to complete development works within 210 days.
The project involves development of the land where new facilities of the airport would be built.
The Kalibo airport serves as a primary gateway to mainland Aklan and is one of two airports closest to Boracay. The other is Caticlan Airport.
Apart from this, the DOTr is investing P10.62 million for the completion of the Vigan Airport’s fence and canal.
The winning bidder is required to complete the perimeter fence enclosing the airport’s runway within 90 days, according to the DOTr.
The agency will hold a pre-bid conference for both contracts on July 4.
Bid offers will be opened on July 17, the DOTr said.
