Family of 4 killed in Bulacan fire

CAMP ALEJO SANTOS, Bulacan, Philippines — Four members of a family died while another was injured when a fire struck their house in Malolos, Bulacan early yesterday morning.

The fatalities – Philip, 49; Maricel, 49; Felice, 18, and Julienne, 10, all surnamed Caluag – died at the scene of the incident that occurred in Sitio Langgam in Barangay Bulihan, according to Manuel Lukban Jr., Bulacan disaster officer.

Another member of the family – Seth, 15 – was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries.

Initial investigation showed the victims could have been asleep when the fire broke out at around 3:40 a.m.

Responding firefighters declared the fire out at around 4:18 a.m.

Probers have yet to determine the cause of the fire.
