Fugitive in Interpol notice nabbed at NAIA

MANILA, Philippines — A man who is on the red notice list of the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) was arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 in Pasay on Monday.
Arnold Abril, 56, was apprehended by a tracker team from the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) upon his arrival at the airport from Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
QCPD director Brig. Gen. Melecio Buslig Jr. said Abril, an electrician assistant, has warrants of arrest for six counts of acts of lasciviousness, three counts of rape and two counts of lascivious conduct issued by a court in Bulacan.
No bail was recommended for his temporary liberty.
The Philippine government had put up a bounty of P160,000 for Abril’s arrest.
Apart from his inclusion on the Interpol’s red notice list, the suspect was a target personality of the QCPD under Coplan Hadas.
Abril’s arrest was a collaboration between the Philippine Center on Transnational Crime, the UAE’s National Central Bureau and other national law enforcement agencies.
“This operation delivers a resolute message: escaping justice is futile. We will cross borders, close gaps and confront criminals wherever they may be,” Metro Manila police chief Maj. Gen. Anthony Aberin said. — Christine Boton
