CAUAYAN, Isabela, Philippines — Three people died after their motorcycles were hit by a sport utility vehicle (SUV) in this city on Sunday.

Aurelio Cacot, driver of a Honda Click 125, his passenger Richard Cacot, and Eddie Martin, driver of a Honda TMX, were declared dead on arrival in a nearby hospital.

Investigation showed that SUV driver Kim Cacayan, 24, was reportedly fixing his seatbelt while traveling along the highway in Barangay Minante.

Probers said Cacayan lost control of the wheel, causing the vehicle to swerve and collide with the motorcycles.

The impact threw the riders off their motorcycles.

Police said human error was the cause of the accident.

Cacayan was taken to the police station for questioning. Charges of multiple homicide and damage to property will be filed against him, probers said.

Meanwhile, in Agusan del Norte, seafarer Renante Elisan, 47, and his brother Frederick, 44, died when their car rammed a concrete barrier in Butuan City before dawn on Saturday.

Investigation showed the Elisans were reportedly drunk.

The victims were on their way home when they figured in the accident along J. C. Aquino Avenue, probers said.
