IT engineer held at Iloilo airport over bomb joke

ILOILO CITY, Philippines — An information technology engineer from Batangas was arrested at the Iloilo International Airport in Cabatuan town on Thursday night over a bomb joke.

The suspect, who was identified only as Gab, was asked to deplane from a Cebu Pacific flight bound for Manila along with 172 other passengers at 9:30 p.m. for inspection of the aircraft.

The plane was allowed to depart at 11:24 p.m. after personnel of the police Aviation Security Unit conducted paneling of the aircraft.

Cabatuan police chief Capt. Dionisio Estacio said the suspect claimed he was referring to dried fish, which he is bringing home, when he talked about a bomb.

It was learned that Gab arrived in this city on Dec. 18 for a project with a bank.
