1,000 left homeless in Tawi-Tawi fire

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — A fire of still unknown origin gutted more than 100 houses and left around 1,000 people homeless in Bongao, Tawi-Tawi on Thursday.

The fire, which occurred at around 1:40 p.m., also damaged a school building along Kahapan street in Barangay Poblacion. The fire was declared out at around 5 p.m.

The Bongao fire station said no one was reported injured in the fire. Damage to property has yet to be determined.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development regional office in Zamboanga peninsula provided relief assistance to affected families.
