2 Pinays recruited as sex workers in Singapore
MANILA, Philippines — Two Filipinas who claimed to have been offered jobs as sex workers in Singapore were prevented from leaving the country, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) reported yesterday.
The women, both in their 20s, initially said they were tourists bound for Malaysia. They introduced themselves as officemates during the primary inspection by immigration officers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1.
They underwent secondary inspection after their statements were found to be inconsistent.
The women eventually admitted they were recruited to be “entertainers” in Singapore with a monthly salary of P60,000, the BI said.
BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco said the women identified at least five persons “involved in their trafficking.” The case has been referred to the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking for investigation.
