MANILA, Philippines — The Lagusnilad underpass in Manila was closed to traffic beginning yesterday to give way for repairs expected to last until September.

Only one lane of the underpass will remain open to motorists, the city government said.

City hall said the rehabilitation of the underpass would include upgrading, concreting and drainage improvement.

Pumping systems in the area will also be upgraded to prevent flooding.

Affected motorists are advised to take alternative routes.

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna led the groundbreaking ceremony for the P57-million project funded by the local and national governments.
