Comelec: All set for Bulacan Village plebiscite

MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is ready for the holding of the plebiscite in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan today to ratify the division of Barangay Muzon into four barangays.

Comelec spokesman Rex Laudiangco said voting is from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The polling centers are at the San Jose Heights Elementary School, Pabahay Elementary School, Benito Nieto Elementary School and Muzon High School.

Comelec records show that there are 43,771 registered voters in Barangay Muzon.

Comelec Chairman George Garcia said an 80 percent voter turnout is expected, noting that the San Jose del Monte city government had “campaigned hard” for the plebiscite.

The division of Barangay Muzon into Barangays Muzon Proper, Muzon East, Muzon West and Muzon South is provided under Republic Act 11896, which lapsed into law in July last year.

Garcia urged voters in Barangay Muzon to participate in the plebiscite.

“Every electoral process is an opportunity to highlight the vibrancy of our democracy. Our voices are heard. This is the essence of this plebiscite. We dictate what our future is. Go out and vote and proclaim to everyone that you are free,” he said. – Ramon Efren Lazaro
