Quake shakes Leyte

MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude-5.1 earthquake shook several areas in Leyte and nearby provinces in the Visayas on Sunday night, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.

Phivolcs said the quake was followed by a magnitude-4.7 aftershock yesterday morning and expected to cause damage to property.

The temblor occurred at around 8:28 p.m. and was reportedly felt at Intensity 3 in the towns of Alangalang, Carigara, Babatngon and Barugo as well as in the cities of Ormoc and Tacloban.

Intensity 4 was recorded in several villages in Carigara.

Nine hours after the quake occurred, an aftershock was felt at Intensity 3 in Kananga, Intensity 2 in Calubian and Albuera, and Intensity 1 in Ormoc as well as in Borongan, Eastern Samar and Bogo City, Cebu.
