MANILA, Philippines — In anticipation of the influx of travelers during the Christmas season, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) was placed on heightened alert beginning yesterday.
The PCG also enforced a “no leave” policy to maximize its personnel during the holiday rush.
PCG chief Artemio Abu ordered coast guard personnel to ensure the safety of sea passengers going to the provinces for the holidays.
The PCG will be on heightened alert until Jan. 7 next year, which means its 25,000-strong personnel will be deployed in ports and other transport terminals.
