House OKs integration of national building code in curriculums

MANILA, Philippines — The House of Representatives has approved on third and final reading a measure that will pave the way for the inclusion of the National Building Code as a major subject in engineering, architecture and other related courses.

With 276 votes, lawmakers approved House Bill 5087, which seeks to “safeguard life, health, property and public welfare.”

Authored by Deputy Speaker Aurelio Gonzales Jr., the measure will also be part of licensure examinations for engineering and architecture.

Once enacted into law, the Professional Regulation Commission would undertake the integration of the National Building Code in licensure examinations.

Under the bill, the Commission on Higher Education would be mandated to develop the curricula.
