Pasay fire leaves 157 families homeless
MANILA, Philippines — At least 157 families lost their homes and two people were injured in a fire that broke out in a slum community in Pasay City on Friday night.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the fire at the corner of Aurora Boulevard and Ramos street in Barangay 156 started at around 8:43 p.m. and reached second alarm.
Barangay captain Eduardo Pingol said 40 houses made of light construction materials were destroyed during the blaze.
“Two residents were injured when they stepped on nails,” he said in Filipino during a phone interview.
Firefighters put out the flames at around 9:52 p.m., the BFP said. Nine fire trucks and two ambulances responded to the scene.
Pingol said the affected residents are being fed at an evacuation center.
Arson probers have yet to determine the cause of the fire.
