Preacher arrested for rape

MANILA, Philippines — A preacher of a religious sect accused of sexually molesting a 16-year-old girl was arrested in Quezon City at past midnight yesterday.

The suspect, a 38-year-old man, was nabbed by operatives of the Galas police station 11 at around 12:15 a.m. in response to the victim’s complaint.

The victim told investigators that her ordeal occured in Barangay San Isidro Galas on Tuesday.

According to the victim, the suspect invited her to his place, an offer which she accepted as they are both members of the religious group.

Once inside, the suspect closed the door and allegedly raped her.

The girl reported the incident to her sister when she got home, resulting in the suspect’s arrest.

The suspect is being held on charges of violating Republic Act 8353 or the Anti-Rape Law in relation to RA 7610, otherwise known as the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act.
