Robber killed in ‘shootout’

CAMP ALEJO SANTOS, Bulacan, Philippines — One of two men who broke into a convenience store was killed in an alleged shootout with police officers in Baliwag town in this province yesterday morning.

The suspects, whose identities were not immediately available, escaped on a motorcycle after robbing the store in Barangay Sulivan, according to Col. Relly Arnedo, Bulacan police director.

The suspects opened fire at the pursuing police officers, triggering a firefight that resulted in the death of one of them.

Probers said they recovered a handgun, ammunition and a bag containing P4,240 in cash from the slain suspect.
