MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Bong Go attended the Indigenous Peoples Day celebration in Glan, Sarangani on Wednesday during which he thanked policemen and firefighters for maintaining the safety of communities.

“Ito ang mga pulis ngayon, malalapitan at masisipag talaga at napakabait. Kaya dinoble ni Presidente Duterte ang sweldo ng pulis at bumbero para magsipag pa,” Go said in his speech.

He was referring to Congress Joint Resolution 1 signed by the former president in 2018, which doubled the base pay of a private in the military, police officer 1 and equivalent ranks in the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine Public Safety College, Philippine Coast Guard and National Mapping and Resource Information Authority.

Go vowed to continue to be a staunch advocate of the welfare of indigenous communities.

After the event, the senator proceeded to the Glan municipal gym to aid indigents in a relief activity.

Go’s team distributed grocery packs, face masks, vitamins, shirts and snacks to 500 beneficiaries. Some received bicycles, cellular phones, shoes and balls for basketball and volleyball.

He advised those with health issues to seek the services of the Malasakit Center at Dr. Jorge P. Royeca Medical Center in General Santos City.

Representatives from the Department of Social Welfare and Development extended financial assistance through the DSWD’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation program.
