Bulacan tightens environment checkpoints

MALOLOS, Philippines — The provincial government of Bulacan has tightened its campaign against illegal quarry and logging operations as well as other offenses committed against the environment.

Bulacan Gov. Daniel Fernando earlier ordered the setting up of nine environment checkpoints to ensure that only quarry materials and forest products from permitted sources are transported.

Julius Victor Degala, chief of the provincial environment and natural resources office, said that aside from checkpoints, a roving team was also created to patrol beyond the regular office hours.

Since 2019, the provincial government has monitored 468 illegal logging reports and investigated 181 quarry and mining complaints.
