Caloocan conducts cleanup drive vs dengue

Marc Jayson Cayabyab - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Caloocan government conducted a cleanup drive in three barangays on Saturday as cases of dengue continue to rise in Metro Manila.

In a statement yesterday, Mayor Along Malapitan said the City Environmental Management Department (CEMD) led the cleanup drive in Barangays 172 and 177 in North Caloocan and Barangay 18 in South Caloocan.

CEMD officer-in-charge Ryan Castillo said the department would clean public areas in the city to destroy mosquito breeding sites.

The department also conducted fogging and declogging activities to prevent the spread of dengue cases.

Malapitan urged his constituents to be responsible in disposing of their garbage.

Meanwhile, the office of Manila Vice Mayor Yul Servo also conducted a misting activity in Sta. Cruz yesterday.

The water-based misting was done in Barangay 312, Servo said in a Facebook post.

A fogging operation was also done at the Manila city hall as well as areas in Barangay 12 on Saturday, according to the local disaster risk reduction and management office.

Mayor Honey Lacuna had ordered a weekly cleanup at city hall every Friday as part of her “decent and clean governance.”
