Guevarra holds transition meeting with OSG team

MANILA, Philippines — One week before he assumes the position of solicitor general, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra has been briefed about the special cases that have national importance.

Guevarra said he met with the transition team from the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) on Wednesday.

“They gave me an idea about the special cases being handled by the OSG and the operations in the office,” Guevarra told reporters.

“We also discussed matters that need immediate attention such as the structural problems of the OSG building,” he added.

Guevarra said there is a need to create additional legal divisions in the agency.

He also wants amendments to the OSG Law, such as retirement benefits for state solicitors like those enjoyed by their judicial counterparts.

Guevarra will replace Solicitor General Jose Calida on June 30.
