Quake jolts Ilocos Sur
MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude-5.1 earthquake shook parts of Ilocos Sur yesterday afternoon, state seismologists said.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the quake occurred at 2:08 p.m. some 63 kilometers west of Candon City.
The quake, which was tectonic in origin was felt at Intensity 4 in Candon and San Esteban Sur, both in Ilocos Sur.
Intensity 3 was felt in Vigan, Ilocos Sur; Pinili in Ilocos Norte; Sudipen and Bangar, both in La Union, and Alaminos and Bolinao, both in Pangasinan.
Phivolcs said Intensity 2 was felt in Sta. Cruz, Sta. Lucia and Sinait, all in Ilocos Sur; Bacarra in Ilocos Norte, and San Juan in La Union.
No damage was expected from the quake, but it can generate aftershocks, state seismologists said.
