Guard hurt in hit-and-run accident in Mandaluyong

MANILA, Philippines (Updated 12:25 p.m.) — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) yesterday issued a show-cause order against the owner of a sport utility vehicle tagged in a hit-and-run incident in Mandaluyong City that injured a security guard.

LTO intelligence and investigation division officer-in-charge Renante Melitante ordered the owner to submit a written explanation on why he should not be charged for reckless driving and why his driver’s license should not be revoked.

On Sunday, Christian Floralde, who is also a traffic enforcer, was hit by a white Toyota RAV4 (NCO- 3781) while he was manning traffic at the corner of J. Vargas and St. Francis street in Barangay Wack- Wack.

Probers said upon verification with the LTO, it was found that the car was registered to the owner, whose name is being withheld.

The vehicle owner was ordered to appear today at the LTO central office in Quezon City.

The LTO suspended the driver’s license of the owner for 90 days. His record was also placed under alarm to prevent any transactions while he is being investigated.

Senator-elect Joseph Victor Ejercito earlier put up a P50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the vehicle owner. – Jose Rodel Clapano, Paolo Romero
