MANILA, Philippines — The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) is warning the Catholic faithful against phishing scams involving the alleged impersonation of Apostolic Nuncio Archbishop Charles Brown.

In an article, CBCP secretary general Msgr. Bernardo Pantin said the scam targets those who are using Yahoo Mail by asking the would-be victim to enter their login details to receive a “confidential message” supposedly from Brown.

“It’s a phishing attempt to get their (Yahoo Mail) account details,” Pantin said.

So far, the CBCP has yet to report victims of the phishing scams.

The Anti-Money Laundering Council has repeatedly advised the public not to reply to suspicious emails to avoid getting victimized by phishing scams.
