MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has mobilized a task force to ensure safe, reliable and comfortable transportation for voters during the May 9 elections.

The DOTr activated Oplan Biyaheng Ayos, as stated in a memorandum signed by Assistant Secretary for Maritime and officer-in-charge for Special Concerns Narciso Vingson Jr.

“All sectoral offices and attached agencies are directed to be on heightened alert status to ensure the health, safety, security, reliability and comfort of passengers traveling during the observation of National and Local Elections 2022, particularly during this pandemic,” the memorandum read.

The DOTr guaranteed the riding public of available transportation whether by land, sea or air as they proceed to their respective towns, cities and provinces to cast their votes on Monday.

The transportation department said sectoral offices and attached agencies shall maintain their operations and conduct 24/7 coordination, monitoring and real-time reporting of activities and incidents.

Desks, booths, counters and centers serving passengers shall also be properly manned during operating hours to prevent long queues, it said.

The task force also required the dissemination of safety tips, common types of violations and safety and security regulations at airports, seaports and other transportation hubs. –  Rudy Santos
