GENERAL SANTOS CITY, Philippines — Two fuel tanker trucks burst into flames following a collision in Malungon, Sarangani before dawn yesterday.
Drivers Philip Sesaldo, 32, and Manny Remedios, 39, were taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries.
The trucks, loaded with 40,000 liters of diesel and gasoline, were owned by the Super Soy Commercial Center, a company engaged in trucks-for-hire business.
The trucks were traveling along a downhill road when one of them reportedly developed engine trouble and fell to its side, according to Lt. Wennie Perez, Malungon deputy police chief.
Perez said the driver of the second truck, which was trailing behind, failed to step on the brakes and crashed into the other vehicle.
It took three hours for the firefighters to put out the flames.
Authorities placed the amount of damage at P7 million.
Meanwhile, in Pangasinan, a fire of still unknown origin destroyed the third floor of the Tayug police station on Saturday afternoon.
Maj. Rommel Sembrano, acting municipal police chief, and his men tried to put out the blaze, but the flames spread quickly.
Firefighters from nearby towns and areas responded and put out the blaze within an hour. – Eva Visperas
