Man drowns in Nueva Ecija river

CABANATUAN CITY, Nueva Ecija, Philippines — A man drowned during a family excursion in a river in Carranglan, Nueva Ecija on Saturday.

Nestor Balandang of Obando, Bulacan was last seen having a drinking session with his relatives on the bank of Carranglan River in Barangay Puncan.

Balandang, who was tipsy, left his relatives and went into the water to swim, according to reports reaching Col. Jess Mendez, acting provincial police director.

The victim’s body was found by a fisherman at around 8 p.m.

Meanwhile, in Zambales, an Indian businessman drowned in a beach in San Narciso town on Friday.

Pramod Passi Madanmohab, 52, of Marikina, and his friends and relatives checked in at the Crystal Beach Resort in Barangay La Paz.

Madanmohab was last seen swimming with his friend Parveen Singh at around 1:15 p.m.

He reportedly swam away from his friend until he was carried away by the waves.

Responding lifeguards failed to immediately rescue Madanmohab, who was found floating unconscious.

The victim was declared dead on arrival at the San Marcelino District Hospital.
