Eva Visperas - The Philippine Star

DAGUPAN , Philippines —  Up to 123 candidates in Ilocos region have surrendered 149 guns since the start of the election period on Jan. 8.

Brig. Gen. Emmanuel Peralta, regional police director, said a total of 471 firearms were turned over to various police stations for safekeeping.

“This is part of our massive campaign against loose firearms especially in preparation for the national and local elections. We are closely working with the Comelec (Commission on Elections) and our AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines) counterparts to sustain what we have started well,” Peralta said.
