‘Bloody Sunday’ preliminary hearing set

MANILA, Philippines — The preliminary hearing on a murder case filed against 17 policemen tagged in the “Bloody Sunday” incident will be held today and on March 1, the Department of Justice said yesterday.

The schedules were set weeks before the first anniversary of the simultaneous police operations that resulted in the death of nine activists in Batangas, Cavite and Rizal on March 7.

The National Bureau of Investigation filed the complaint in connection with the death of activists Ariel Evangelista and his wife Ana Mariz, and seven others.

The respondents were members of the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group based at Camp Vicente Lim in Calamba, Laguna.
